Let's Go Great Guns Today

For my readers who may not be native speakers of English, to "go great guns" is an expression of speech meaning to do an activity very well, quickly, and/or with a lot of vigor.  The phrase comes from 18th-century British naval slang. At the time, the expression "blowing great guns" described a fierce, violent wind storm (a gale) where the wind roared like heavy ship cannons. By the 1800s, the saying shifted into "go great guns" to describe anything moving with that same powerful, unstoppable force and energy.  In  slang, "guns" refer to a man's upper arms, particularly when they are impressively muscular.
